APD officer injured in crash on icy flyover

AUSTIN, TX – An Austin police officer is at home recovering after being severely injured in a collision on an icy highway flyover last week, the Austin Police Association told KXAN.

According to APA president Ken Casaday, the incident occurred as the unidentified officer was sitting in a police cruiser that was deployed to block traffic on an unspecified highway overpass. A civilian driver lost control of their vehicle due in part to icy road conditions, and slammed into the rear of the cruiser at a high rate of speed. The officer suffered lacerations, a concussion, and a brain bleed, and possibly fractured a vertebrae as well.

She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and has since been released in order to continue her recovery at home.
