Intoxicated driver hits, kills pedestrian on sidewalk
AUSTIN, TX – A man has been charged with driving while intoxicated and intoxication manslaughter after hitting and killing a female pedestrian on the city’s far northwest side last week, My Texas Daily reports.
The accident happened at the intersection of Pond Springs Road and U.S. Highway 183 at approximately 10:36 p.m on May 21.
Gary Joseph Brauneis, 27, was driving a grey 2010 Mazda M3i northbound on the service road when he struck a 2014 GMC pickup truck stopped at a red light intersection. The impact launched the truck into the intersection while the Mazda continued accelerating, striking a woman who was walking on the sidewalk. The Mazda did not stop until it crashed into a building.
The victim—identified as Ginger Mattox, 30—was transported to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Brauneis was arrested, charged with driving while intoxicated, and charged with intoxication manslaughter
