Man arrested after driving through protesters near APD headquarters

AUSTIN, TX – A man was arrested after he drove through a crowd of protesters near the Austin Police Department headquarters, according to a report by KVUE.

The incident occurred last night on Eighth Street when an unidentified man attempted to drive through a crowd of protesters blocking the roadway. When the protesters did not allow him through, the driver began brandishing a gun at the demonstrators.

The driver then pulled over and surrendered to police officers, who took him and his vehicle into police custody.

There were no injuries reported in the incident, though it led to an increase in tensions between protesters and police. Multiple people were pepper-sprayed and arrested for crimes such as criminal trespass.

The protests follow a month of racial justice demonstrations across the country and around the world in response to the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis while in police custody.
