Multi-vehicle crash leads to closures on Mopac Expressway
AUSTIN, TX – The Mopac Expressway was closed this afternoon due to an accident in the area, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
Traffic Alert: Southbound Loop 1 (MoPac) is closed at Lake Austin Blvd due to multi vehicle crash. Detour to side streets, and consider alternatives or delay trip until cleared. #atxtraffic

The multi-vehicle accident occurred in the southbound lanes of the highway, near Lake Austin Boulevard, before 12 p.m.
While the exact circumstances of the crash were not released, it is highly likely that the icy weather conditions may have played a role.
There is no word yet on possible injuries.
Authorities closed the southbound lanes of the freeway as they worked the crash. Traffic was detoured to side streets nearby, and TxDOT advised travelers to stay off the roads if possible.
