One dead after being struck by airplane at Austin airport

AUSTIN, TX – According to KXAN, a person who was on the runway of Austin-Bergstorm International Airport was hit and killed by a Southwest passenger airplane that was landing.

The crew of the Southwest flight reported seeing an unauthorized individual on the runway 17-Right at 8:12 p.m., according to a statement from ABIA.

The aircraft tried to avoid the individual on the runway.

Air traffic control workers state that they say a body on the runway that looked like a deceased male.

The Austin Police department responded to the scene at 8:16 p.m. and the man was pronounced dead at 8:41 p.m.

How and why the man got on the runway is still under investigation.

There were no injuries reported from the passengers on-board the flight.
