One dead, six injured after car vs. van crash in New Braunfels

NEW BRAUNFELS, TX – A man died and a family of six was injured last night in a crash in New Braunfels, according to KXAN.

The accident happened around 10:40 p.m. in the 600 block of North Business Interstate 35.

A Ford Focus driven by San Antonio man Michael Maraist, 26, was traveling at a high speed on the I-35 access road when he missed a turn. The Ford then traveled off the road and through a median before coming into the pathway of oncoming traffic. It crashed into a Ford Transit 350 van that included a family of six among its occupants.

Maraist died as a result of the crash, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

The family of six—made up of four children and two adults—were taken to a local hospital for the treatment of non-critical injuries.

The incident is under investigation at this time.
