One person killed in early-morning pin-in collision on I-35

AUSTIN, TX – One person was killed in a pin-in accident on I-35 in central Austin early this morning, according to the Austin-Travis County EMS.

#ATCEMS & @AustinFireInfo are on scene of a Vehicle Rescue at 3735 N Ih 35 Svrd Nb (01:21). Responders on scene reporting a 2 vehicle collision, with one patient pinned in their vehicle. Expect #ATXTraffic delays in the area, avoid if possible. More information to follow.

The collision occurred at 3735 N I-35 service road at about 1:20 a.m., when two vehicles collided, pinning one person within the wreckage.

Authorities were able to extricate the victim about 25 minutes later, then attempted CPR. Despite these emergency efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by 1:51 a.m.

The second person involved in the accident was not reported as injured.

ATCEMS warned travelers to avoid the area, as the ongoing investigation would lead to heavy traffic delays and extended road closures.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
