Pedestrian dead, driver injured in SW Austin collision

AUSTIN, TX – A pedestrian died and one person was taken to the hospital following a car accident Sunday afternoon in southwest Austin, according to a tweet by the Austin-Travis County EMS.

The crash happened just before 4 p.m. in the 4300 block of South Lamar Boulevard when a car collided with a pedestrian. The vehicle then struck a light pole, pinning the driver inside the wreckage for about thirty minutes.

The pedestrian died at the scene at about 4:15 p.m.

The driver was taken to South Austin Medical Center as a trauma alert with injuries described as potentially serious.

A third person, apparently an occupant of the vehicle, refused treatment at the crash site.

The identities of the victims were not made available.

ATCEMS advised drivers to avoid the area, as traffic delays were likely.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
