Pedestrian struck and killed on 59

HOUSTON, TX – A man was hit and killed by a vehicle while trying to cross the Southwest Freeway after his car broke down on Wednesday morning, sources report.

The victim was on the inside shoulder of U.S. 59 near Fondren Road at approximately 10:40 a.m. when he attempted to run across the highway after his car stalled out.

Police said he was hit by a driver in a Cadillac, who was unable to maneuver around the man.

Paramedics rushed to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead.

It is unclear why the man was running across the highway. police believe he might have been trying to avoid being towed away.
