Update: Victim of fatal May 18 pedestrian crash is ID’d by police
AUSTIN, TX – Authorities have released the identity of the victim of a fatal pedestrian accident near a construction site on I-35 that happened on May 18.
This is an update to a previous news story.
The accident happened in the 1900 block of the N I-35 service road, near MLK Boulevard, at 6:20 a.m.
According to the Austin Police Department, the accident claimed the life of 31-year-old Brian J. Box, who was most likely struck by a driver who then fled the scene. Box was then hit by the driver of a 2008 Saturn.
Box died at the scene.
The driver of the Saturn remained after the crash and has cooperated with the investigation. Authorities do not intend on filing charges against them.
Police continue to investigate the crash and to search for the hit-and-run driver and their vehicle.
The crash is Austin’s 45th fatal collision of the year.
