1 dead, 5 left injured after multi-vehicle crash off S Sam Houston Pkwy W in SW Houston
HARRIS COUNTY, TX – One person lost their life Thursday morning following a four-vehicle collision in southwest Houston that injured five others, including two juveniles, according to ABC13.
Houston Police responded to the scene in the 10900 block of South Sam Houston Parkway West service road shortly after 9:25 a.m.
Officials said a man was behind the wheel of a silver Honda Accord carrying the two juveniles and a woman passenger as it traveled westbound in the 9100 block of West Airport Boulevard. Moments after entering the intersection with South Sam Houston Parkway West on a red light, a woman driving a silver Hyundai Accent behind the Honda also reported ran the red light after failing to control her rate of speed.
After the Hyundai collided with the back of the Honda, a green Toyota Camry that was heading eastbound on West Airport and turning left onto the service road was hit by the Honda. The impact forced the Toyota to then cross the intersection, where it struck a white Mack van that was also traveling eastbound and making a left turn.
The driver of the Hyundai succumbed to her injuries at the scene, confirmed the Houston Police Department.
The driver of the Honda and his three passengers were rushed to a local hospital where their conditions were stabilized.
First responders also transported the driver of the Toyota to an area hospital in stable condition.
The driver of the Mack, who was uninjured, remained at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate.
