2 dead following wrong-way crash on I-69 near Bush Airport
HOUSTON, TX – Two people have died following a suspected DWI crash that happened on northbound Interstate 69 near Rankin Road on Thursday, according to KTRK.
Officials say a woman between 20 and 24 years old was initially observed driving a silver car south in the northbound lanes for at least five to ten minutes. At around 4:00 a.m., before Humble police were able to respond to the scene, her vehicle collided head-on with a white car driven by a 22-year-old man in the far left lane.
Rescue crews pronounced the 22-year-old man dead at the scene. The woman, who was transported to an area hospital, also later succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities had found signs of impairment following the accident and an investigation into intoxication manslaughter was underway when the woman’s death was confirmed.
