3 left critically hurt after dispute leads to pedestrian crash, assault in Houston’s Northside
HOUSTON, TX — Two women were struck by a vehicle early Monday after a dispute in the parking lot of a north Houston bar, which prompted a bystander to beat up the driver, according to ABC13.
The incident occurred outside of Micheladas Tres Hermanos, located in the 7700 block of Airline Drive, near Gurney Lane. It was first reported at around 2:00 a.m., after the bar had just closed.
Preliminary details indicate a man had driven to the location and became engaged in an argument with another person in the parking lot. As the man began to drive away erratically, his vehicle hit two other cars. Then, while backing down Airline Drive, his vehicle ran over two female pedestrians who were exiting the parking lot. The vehicle continued reversing down Airline Drive until it hit and downed a utility pole, causing a power outage in the area.
Following the series of crashes, the male suspect attempted to run away, but was pulled out of his vehicle and assaulted by a group of bystanders.
One bystander who violently beat up the driver was apprehended by responding police after a short foot pursuit. Houston Police Department officials said the bystander, who was tased after punching one officer in the lip, was arrested for both “alleged assault on the officer and the suspect.”
The driver, who was transported to a hospital with critical injuries, was also placed under custody.
Authorities said the two women suffered critical injuries in the pedestrian crash but are expected to survive.
An investigation remains underway, but drugs and alcohol are believed to be factors in the incident. Both the suspect and the bystander are expected to be charged.
