HPD investigates fatal rollover crash on Gulf Fwy in SE Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A 32-year-old man died early Sunday after his car overturned and caught fire on the Gulf Freeway in southeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The fatal wreck occurred in the 9100 block of the freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) at around 12:25 a.m.
According to the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division, the man was behind the wheel of a grey Infiniti G37 heading northbound at a high rate of speed. At one point, he lost control, causing the car to hit the freeway’s east side guardrail. Officials said the vehicle went airborne before coming to rest on its hood and catching fire.
A relative who happened to be traveling in another vehicle was able to stop and remove the victim from the burning vehicle. Shortly after medics arrived on the scene, the victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
No other occupants or vehicles were involved.
