HPD responds to fatal pedestrian crash on I-45 N Fwy near downtown Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle Friday morning on Interstate 45 near downtown Houston, prompting a heavy emergency response, reports ABC13 Houston.
Houston Transtar confirmed the incident at 5:59 a.m., on the southbound side of I-45 (North Freeway) near Memorial Drive.
While no information about the victim or the circumstances of the event has been provided, all southbound lanes of I-45 were blocked for over five hours.
Significant delays were further compounded by a heavy truck and hazmat incident on the northbound interstate at Beltway 8 that had all main lanes shut down.
Houston Police Department officials have not said whether the driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene. No pending charges have been reported.
