Man dies after rollover crash on East Fwy in Greater Fifth Ward
HOUSTON, TX — A 34-year-old man died last Friday, June 17, after a rollover wreck on the East Freeway in Houston’s Greater Fifth Ward area, according to the Houston Police Department.
The HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division said the fatal crash happened in the 3200 block of the freeway (Interstate Highway10) at around 4:00 p.m.
Witnesses said the man was driving a beige Buick Lacrosse westbound in a reckless manner and at a high rate of speed. At one point, the Buick collided with a crash cushion between the main lanes and the exit ramp, causing the vehicle to overturn. After rolling into the main lanes, the Buick hit a red Buick Lacrosse.
Responding paramedics with the Houston Fire Department rushed the driver of the striking Buick to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center. He later succumbed to his injuries, confirmed officials.
No injuries to the driver of the red Buick were reported.
Authorities have not disclosed further information at this time, as an investigation remains underway.
