Single-engine plane crash-lands on Grand Pkwy. near Baytown

HARRIS CO., TX — First responders in northwest Harris County rushed to the scene of a small plane crash on the Grand Parkway on Sunday afternoon.

According to a report by KHOU, the pilot called in a loss of power to his single-engine plane while flying over the highway near Cypress Rosehill Road at about 11:15  a.m.

“I’m just passing the Tomball stadium now. I’m going to try to bring it in over the road and land with traffic,” the pilot was heard saying to air traffic control as the aircraft descended.

Moments later, the plane crash-landed on top of a tractor-trailer and skidded down the roadway, catching fire as its wings brushed the concrete barriers.

Fortunately, neither the pilot nor the truck driver were injured in the crash.

This portion of the Grand Parkway was closed for several hours afterward while emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and spilt fuel. All lanes have since reopened.
