Tragic accident on W. Grand Parkway kills mother and baby and seriously injures a toddler

HOUSTON, TX- A mother and her baby were killed, and another child was seriously injured, when their car was pushed off the W. Grand Parkway overpass on Feb. 15th.

KTRK reports that the accident involved three vehicles on Wednesday morning around 8:20a.m.

Everything began when one vehicle braked extremely quickly on the ramp towards U.S. 290. The vehicle behind that first car was a 2009 Toyota Camry. The Camry attempted to avoid the car by swerving to the left but then had to swerve to the right to avoid some barriers on the road.

Upon veering to the right, the Camry then hit the side of a 2020 Toyota 4Runner. After hitting that car, the Camry then hit a Volkswagen sedan.

When the 4Runner was hit, it was pushed into the wall on the side of the road. It then proceeded to flip over the side of the wall, off the overpass. The 4Runner fell upside down but then flipped again and landed right-side up. Images of the vehicle show the top completely crushed in.

The 30 year-old mom who was driving the 4Runner passed away at the scene and both of her children who were with her were hospitalized. The nine month-old baby boy died while hospitalized. The 3 year-old male toddler has been left in critical condition.

The drivers of the Camry and the Volkswagen were unharmed and cooperated with law enforcement. The vehicle that began the whole accident by braking suddenly fled from the scene.

The area around the accident was closed off until about 1p.m. that same day. Authorities are still investigating the whole accident.
