Katy Freeway reduced to one lane by incident involving excessive truck height
HOUSTON, TX- An 18-wheeler carrying a van attempted to drive under a bridge on Katy Freeway, severely damaging the van and forcing authorities to partially close the freeway on Feb. 21st.
KHOU11 reports that the excessive height of the van caused the bridge to distort and destroy the load when it came into contact with the bridge. The van is seen in images to be completely cut open in the middle to back portions of it.
The semitruck and van hit the bridge at 7:18p.m. Because the mangled van was left dangling from the bridge, authorities blocked off the right shoulder and lane as well as the two center lanes.
The roadway was opened back up at 8:22p.m.
No clarification has been provided yet regarding whether there were any injuries involved.
