Man hit, killed by HCSO deputy vehicle on Beltway 8 feeder in north Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A man died Tuesday morning after being hit by a HCSO deputy vehicle while crossing the North Beltway 8 feeder road in north Houston, reports ABC13.

Precinct 4 officials with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal incident occurred on the eastbound lanes near Hardy Toll Road. It was first reported shortly after 6:00 a.m.

According to investigators, a male pedestrian in his late 20s to early 30s was walking on the feeder road’s inside shoulder. At one point, he darted across the road and in the path of a HCSO deputy vehicle that was on patrol, resulting in a crash.

The victim was pronounced deceased, confirmed officials.

All eastbound feeder lanes were shut down for an extended time during the response.

An investigation remains underway, but officials have noted it was dark at the time of the event, and that visibility was low due to scant street lighting in the area, where the nearest crosswalk was a great distance away. Large trees also blocked lights from nearby parking lots.

The medical examiner’s office is working to identify the victim.
