Man charged after hit-and-run crash claims life, injures others in SW Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A 24-year-old man faces charges following a hit-and-run collision Saturday morning in southwest Houston that claimed the life of one person, according to KHOU11.
Authorities say the fatal crash happened at 9100 South Dairy Ashford Road, west of the Alief community.
A preliminary investigation indicates Adrian James Martinez was racing or driving a silver Honda Accord at a high rate of speed when the vehicle struck a curb. The impact of the contact caused the car to change lanes and lose control before colliding with a tree.
After the crash, which left the Accord split in half, Martinez reportedly pulled his girlfriend, who was a passenger, out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, leaving behind two backseat passengers.
Authorities said one of the two passengers left behind was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other passenger was transported to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.
Martinez, who later admitted to his role in the fatal crash, was arrested and booked into jail, but is currently out on bond. He has since been charged with “failure to stop and render aid” and is expected to appear in court this coming November.
No information on the victims has been disclosed at this time.
