DWI suspect charged after fatal crash on Killough St in NW Houston
HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A male driver was charged with intoxication manslaughter following a fatal single-vehicle crash early last Thursday, December 21, in northwest Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident unfolded in the 5600 block of Killough Street at around 3:00 a.m.
An early investigation indicates Daniel Alexander Rodriguez-Olivares was behind the wheel of a 2016 BMW 340i and driving eastbound at a “very high rate of speed.” Moments after the BMW went up an embankment along the bayou at the roadway’s east end, it slammed through a wooden barricade. The car then went airborne before crossing the bayou and then crashing into another wooden barricade in the 5400 block of the road. After continuing eastbound, the vehicle entered the retention ditch along the roadway’s south side. It then hit a fence, overturned, and collided with three fences, leaving considerable damage to a nearby commercial facility.
Authorities said Rodriguez then got out of the car and forced an entry at a residence nearby in order to call for help.
EMS personnel arrived on the scene to find his passenger without any signs of life. Their identity has not been made public at this time.
Rodriguez, who was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, displayed signs of intoxication. He has since been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
An investigation by the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division remains underway.
