1 dead, 1 left injured after fiery Tesla crash in Houston’s South Side

HOUSTON, TX — A man died late last Friday, July 28, after a single-vehicle wreck on Del Rio Street in south Houston, reports the Houston Police Department.

The accident happened in the 6600 block of the road, near Old Spanish Trail, at around 11:00 p.m.

According to the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division, the man was driving a gray Tesla T3 at a high rate of speed. At one point, he lost control of the vehicle, which then veered off the roadway, collided with a tree, and caught fire.

The male driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.

His female passenger, who was removed from the vehicle with the help of bystanders, was rushed to a local hospital. No information regarding the severity of her condition has been shared.

An investigation remains in progress.
