1 hospitalized after collision involving ICE in Houston
HOUSTON, TX – One man was taken to the hospital after a collision that involved an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer last Saturday, Oct. 10.
According to Fox26Houston, the incident happened in the area of Clay Road and Highway 6. ICE agents were chasing after a white pickup truck with two male occupants.
Amid the pursuit, the driver of that pickup truck started driving the wrong way before stopping.
The two men inside the pickup truck exited the vehicle and ran away.
One of the men ran down eastbound Clay Road, while the other, identified as Miguel Parra Hernandez, was struck by an ICE vehicle.
EMS rushed Parra Hernandez to a hospital for surgery for a broken leg.
The ICE agent who struck Parra Hernandez is now on administrative leave.
ICE released a photo of the man they claim was with Parra Hernandez, identifying him as Jose Mendoza-Cervantes.
The Department of Homeland Security says Mendoza-Cervantes is undocumented and has prior arrests.
However, a New York Times article confirmed that the sought-after Mendoza-Cervantes died nine years ago. The daughter of Mendoza-Cervantes shared a death certificate with Jose Hector Jimenez Mendoza, revealing he died in 2017.
In addition, Parra Hernandez’s attorney, Kim Bruno, said that her client does not know and has never heard of Mendoza-Cervantes, and that Mendoza-Cervantes was not in the vehicle with her client.
