10 students, 2 adults sent to hospital after school bus overturns off I-610 in SE Houston
HOUSTON, TX — Ten students and two adults were taken to a hospital Wednesday morning after a rollover wreck involving a school bus in southeast Houston, reports ABC13.
The accident happened on the Interstate 610 South Loop East feeder road near I-45 Gulf Freeway, at about 7:00 a.m.
Preliminary details indicate Houston ISD school bus route 2102 was en route to a nearby campus when its driver attempted to make a sharp turn onto Berkley Street. At one point, a passenger car struck the bus, which overturned onto its side.
According to the Houston Fire Department, 10 children on the bus, as well as the drivers of the bus and the car, were transported to a local emergency room with minor injuries.
First responders indicated that transport to the hospital was more a precautionary measure, as everyone involved was able to exit both vehicles on their own, and no major injuries were reported.
A section of the eastbound I-610 South Loop feeder road was shut down for some time as crews worked to get the school bus upright and attend to a fluid leak.
It remains unclear which driver was at fault, but an investigation was underway.
