3 dead after DUI suspect crashes car into golf cart in Cypress

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A 21-year-old man has been charged after a major crash involving a golf cart early Sunday in Cypress that claimed the lives of three men, according to ABC13.

The fatal wreck occurred in the 11100 block of Greenhouse Road, at the intersection with Towne Lake Parkway, at around 2:46 a.m.

An early investigation by Harris County Sheriff’s deputies indicates that the suspect, Daniel Rivera, was driving when he ran the stop sign at the intersection, which is marked by four stop signs. Moments later, his vehicle crashed into a battery-powered golf cart, which was transporting three men identified as Christopher Scandridge, 41, Jacob Wnuk, 37, and Fraser Anderson, 37.

First responders arrived to find two of the victims deceased at the scene. The third victim was rushed to an area hospital with a brain bleed and “no pupillary responses.” He was also later pronounced deceased.

Authorities did not say whether Rivera was hurt, but his two passengers, a woman and an 8-year-old girl, were reported uninjured.

The suspect, who reportedly had a blood alcohol level in great excess of the legal limit, faces charges that include three counts of first-degree murder.

A judge has since set his bond at a total of $600,000.
