70-year-old male bus driver in jail after Dayton hit-and-run crash that injured teen
DAYTON, TX – A 70-year-old male bus driver is in jail after a hit-and-run crash that injured a teenage boy last Friday, Oct. 16.
ABC13 said the incident happened around 6:30 a.m. on Stilson Road. Dayton Police said the bus driver, later identified as Ricky Eugene Cherry, was driving when he struck a teenage boy walking in the area.
Cherry fled the scene without rendering aid to the young pedestrian. Cherry was later arrested and taken to jail. He has since been charged with collision causing serious bodily injury.
Medical helicopter personnel airlifted the teenage boy to a hospital. Andrew Conner, the boy’s father, said he remains in serious condition.
The source asked Dayton Independent School District how long the district has employed Cherry and whether he remains employed, but has received no comments at this time.
