HPD investigates fatal pedestrian crash in Westchase area
HOUSTON, TX — A 76-year-old man died Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Westheimer Road in west Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The fatal incident took place in the 11800 block of the road, in the Westchase neighborhood, at around 5:40 a.m.
Witnesses told authorities that the male pedestrian was walking southbound across Westheimer Road. At one point, he was hit by a brown Toyota Venza that was traveling eastbound on a green light.
Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department pronounced the victim deceased at the scene, confirmed officials. His identity has not been disclosed at this time.
Authorities said the male driver and his female passenger both stayed at the scene after the event. They were later released after officers questioned the driver.
The HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate, but intoxication is not a suspected factor.
