Fatality reported in 5-car crash on I-10 in Greater Fifth Ward

HOUSTON, TX – A woman died Friday morning, and others were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle collision along I-10 in Houston, reports abc 13.

Shortly before 10 a.m., emergency crews responded to a chain-reaction crash on the westbound side of the freeway a Waco Street. This is just northwest of Finnigan Park and east of I-69.

Police are still piecing together the details but say that five cars were involved. The series of crashes was initiated when a driver lost control of her sedan, drove off of the feeder road, and landed on the freeway.

The driver of a sedan succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Authorities have not yet released her name to the public but say that she appears to have been in her 30s.

Medics transported at least two others to the hospital with with injuries of unknown severity.

Officials closed the East Freeway in the area of the accident while teams attended to the victims, gathered evidence, and worked to clear the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
