1 killed, 1 charged in DUI crash at Clay Rd and Sam Houston
HOUSTON, TX – A woman died, and a child sustained injuries Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash caused by a drunk driver in northwest Houston.
According to Click 2 Houston, the accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on the eastbound side of Clay Road near West Sam Houston Tollway. This is near Westway Park and the Brenda and John Duncan YMCA.
Police say that a northbound pickup truck collided with an eastbound sedan when the driver of the latter vehicle failed to heed a red light while turning from the Sam Houston Tollway onto Clay Road.
The 42-year-old driver of the sedan sustained fatal injuries.
Medics transported a three-year-old child from the sedan to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 37-year-old Manuel Neri Mendoza, did not stop to render aid and to speak with police.
Mendoza, who was impaired at the time of the accident, faces a murder charge.
