Woman hurt, two dogs rescued after train slams into SUV in Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A woman suffered injuries when a freight train struck her SUV Tuesday evening on Sampson Street in East Downtown, reports FOX 26 Houston.

Police say the crash happened along the railroad tracks between Rusk Street and McKinney Street. The woman’s Ford Expedition had reportedly come to a stop on the tracks just before the collision.

Officials say two dogs were riding inside the SUV with her. After the crash, crews transported the woman to a hospital and took the two dogs to a local shelter. Reports say the woman was in stable condition after the crash. There were no reported injuries for the dogs.

Police identified the train as a Union Pacific freight train. Investigators have not clarified why the SUV was stopped on the train tracks when the crash occurred.
