Auto-pedestrian crash on US-90 in Dayton injures monks
DAYTON, TX – Injuries have been reported in connection to an auto-pedestrian crash that happened Wednesday night in southwest Liberty County, reports abc 13 News.
The accident occurred sometime before 10:15 p.m. on US-90 near Grand Parkway in the city of Dayton, which is approximately 37 miles northeast of Houston.
Police say that a pickup truck struck a pilot car along the highway, pushing the latter vehicle into a group of Buddhist monks on the eastbound shoulder of the highway. The monks were completing a “peace walk” at the time of the crash.
Medics airlifted one monk to the hospital with serious injuries. A second monk went to the hospital via ground ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck stopped to render aid and to speak with authorities.
