Deputies investigate fatal DUI wreck on East Fwy in Channelview

CHANNELVIEW, TX – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly DUI crash that occurred on the 16300 block of East Fwy on Saturday.

James Anthony Adkins was driving a white 2018 Dodge Ram when parked in the number one westbound moving lane with no lights on around 10:39 p.m.

One driver was able to avoid hitting Adkins. Another driver, Charmayne Lashawn Bridges, was operating a 2014 Kia Optima when they slammed into the rear of the Dodge.

First responders pronounced Bridges dead at the scene. They transported Bridges’ passenger, Paige Shonteal Elaine Chapman, to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Authorities determined Adkins was impaired and obtained a blood specimen. Adkins has been charged with intoxication manslaughter.
