Driver collides with 2 pedestrians, killing 1, near Greater Uptown
HOUSTON, TX – A suspected impaired driver hit two pedestrians, killing one of them, at Houston METRO bus stop on Westheimer Rd near Briarhurst Dr on Monday, according to ABC 13.
A woman in her 40s was speeding on eastbound Westheimer Rd when she drove onto the sidewalk and slammed into two pedestrians who were waiting at a bus stop around 7:25 a.m. The driver also plowed into a light pole and knocked down the traffic lights.
The collision knocked a 40-year-old man across four traffic lanes. Rescue crews transported him to an area hospital with serious injuries. A 33-year-old woman died in the crash.
Witnesses helped locate the driver. First responders transported her to an area hospital. Authorities believe she was impaired.
Crews were still at the scene, over 12 hours after the crash, working to clear the area and fix the traffic lights.
The Houston Police Department is investigating the incident.
