Driver dies after rollover crash off Eastex Fwy in NE Houston

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A man died last Wednesday, August 9, after a rollover wreck involving two vehicles off the Eastex Freeway in northeast Houston, reports the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision took place in the 11900 block of the Eastex Freeway service road shortly before 7:00 p.m.

Preliminary details show the victim, David Martinez, was driving a 2006 grey Chevrolet Impala southbound in lane 2 of the road at the same time Juan Carlos Espinosa was driving a 2019 green Dodge Charger in lane 1, near the Impala. At one point, Martinez made an improper lane change, causing the Impala to strike the right side of the Dodge Charger, pushing the second vehicle onto the grassy area off of the roadway. Authorities said both vehicles flipped due to the impact of the crash.

Martinez was rushed to an area hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, confirmed officials.

Authorities have not disclosed Espinosa’s condition following the rollover wreck.

No other details have been made available, but an investigation by the HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division remains in progress.
