Driver dies after SUV hits trailer on Westheimer Rd in west Houston
HOUSTON, TX — One person was killed Monday afternoon when their vehicle collided with a stopped trailer in west Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal collision occurred in the 16500 block of Westheimer Road, at around 2:10 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found that the victim was driving a 2006 Toyota Sequoia SUV westbound in lane #3 when they failed to control their speed and hit the back of a trailer. Officials say the trailer had been stopped in westbound lane #3 during the loading of construction equipment.
First responders arrived on the scene to find the driver of the Sequoia with “no sign of life.” The victim was pronounced deceased shortly after.
The HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate the collision, but the trailer was found to be in violation of Department of Transportation standards because proper traffic safety warning devices were not placed.
