Driver dies following 2-vehicle collision on East Freeway in Houston

HOUSTON, TX – A driver died following a two-vehicle crash on the 1330 block of East Freeway early Sunday morning, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Efrain Torres Gonzalez was driving a maroon GMC Sierra east on the East Freeway when he struck the passenger side of a black Chrysler Pacifica operated by Layne Andrew Weniger around 1:37 a.m.

The collision caused both vehicles to spin before slamming into the median concrete barrier.

Gonzalez was ejected from the GMC through the front passenger side window.

First responders transported Gonzalez to an area hospital, where he died.

The Chrysler driver and his two passengers were hospitalized with minor injuries.

Following the collision, Weniger cooperated with authorities.

The Vehicular Crimes Division of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
