Driver dies following multi-injury crash on Eastex Fwy in NE Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A 73-year-old man has died after a crash Thursday, July 6, on the Eastex Freeway in northeast Houston that left multiple others injured, reports the Houston Police Department.
The HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division said the accident happened in the 1000 block of the freeway (North Interstate Highway 59) at around 8:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found the man was driving a Dodge Caravan southbound on the freeway. At one point, he failed to control his speed, causing the Dodge to strike a Chevrolet Captiva that was also heading southbound.
First responders rushed both the driver and passenger of the Dodge, as well as both the driver and passenger of the Chevrolet, to a local hospital with an unspecified range of injuries.
Officials confirmed the driver of the Dodge was pronounced deceased on Monday, July 10, four days later.
An investigation remains open and ongoing.
