Driver killed after rear-ending semi-truck on the East Freeway

HOUSTON, TX – A driver died after he plowed into the back of a semi-truck on the 16100 block of the East Freeway Wednesday night, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Devin Governor was driving a 2014 Kenworth truck with a mounted attenuator that was stopped in the outside lane. The truck had yellow and blue strobing lights and a yellow arrowboard.

Robert Emil McKinney Jr. was operating a 2020 Toyota Prius when he slammed into the back of the truck at 11:31 p.m.

First responders pronounced McKinney Jr. dead at the scene.

Following the collision, Governor remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
