Drunk driver hits cruiser at I-69 and TX-288, hurting officer
HOUSTON, TX – A police officer was injured Monday morning in a collision involving a drunk driver in central Houston, reports Click 2 Houston.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. at the intersection of I-69 and TX-288, which is just south of Houston City College’s Central Campus.
Police say that around midnight, a semi-truck hauling hay bales struck an overpass near the intersection. Officials were forced to close the intersection while crews worked to clear the bales from the roadway.
During clean-up efforts, an alleged drunk driver crashed into a police cruiser parked at the scene of the earlier accident.
The officer sustained minor injuries; it’s unclear if they required hospitalization.
