DWI charged after multi-vehicle crash in SE Houston claims life of woman
HOUSTON, TX — A woman has been charged following a multi-vehicle collision early Sunday in southeast Houston that claimed another woman’s life, reports the Houston Police Department.
The fatal crash unfolded in the 6300 block of Gulf Freeway, in the city’s Gulfgate River View/Pine Valley area, on Sunday at about 5:35 a.m.
An early investigation shows Maria Ambriz Reyes. 67. was behind the wheel of a gray Mitsubishi Endeavor heading southbound when she lost control of her vehicle. While the Mitsubishi was spinning on the freeway, it was hit by a gold Chrysler 300 ad then a blue Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck.
Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department had Ambriz Reyes rushed to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where she died as a result of her injuries.
The driver of the Chrysler, Krystal Ann Sanchez, was also taken to a local hospital for unspecified injuries and remains hospitalized at the time of the HPD press release issued December 26. Officials say she was later determined to have been impaired while driving.
After a review by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Sanchez was charged with “driving while intoxicated” in Harris County Criminal Court #5.
No injuries to the Ram driver have been reported.
The HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate.
