Fatal crash reported on I-45SB near Virginia Point, Tiki Island
GALVESTON, TX – At least one person died early Monday in a major crash along the interstate in south Galveston County, reports KHOU 11.
Shortly before 12:30 a.m., emergency crews responded to the southbound side of I-45, or the Gulf Freeway, near Tiki Drive. This is just northeast of Tiki Island and approximately 45 miles southeast of Houston.
Police haven’t yet specified the cause of the crash, the number of vehicles involved, or the manner in which the vehicles impacted.
Officials have confirmed at least one fatality in connection to the accident. The victim’s name has not been released, and there’s no word so far regarding additional injuries.
Authorities closed the southbound side of I-45 in the area of the collision, causing significant delays for those travelling to Tiki Island or Galveston.
