Fatality reported in wrong-way crash at I-10, Lockwood
HOUSTON, TX – A wrong-way collision along the interstate in northeast Houston killed one person and injured another Tuesday morning.
According to Fox 26 Houston, the two-vehicle accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on I-10 westbound near Lockwood Drive, which is northeast of Wheatley High School and Finnigan Park.
Police say that for unknown reasons, an eastbound Nissan sports car entered the westbound side of I-10 and crashed head-on into a westbound Kia. The impact of the crash caused the sports car to ignite.
The driver of the Nissan became entrapped in his vehicle and died at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his name to the public.
Medics transported the female driver of the Kia to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
