Harris Co. detention officer charged with DWI after crash that damaged Humble home

HUMBLE, TX – A Harris County detention officer has been charged with DWI and placed under administrative leave after a crash that damaged part of a Humble home.

The incident occurred before 2 a.m. on Sunday, ABC13 said. Surveillance footage showed blinding headlights, an engine revving, and a crash that woke up Alfonso Pineda and his family.

Pineda walked outside and said the impact of the crash damaged his fence. He saw no driver on site, concluding that the driver fled the scene, but left a pickup truck bumper behind.

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office followed a trail of liquid, which led to a damaged pickup truck. Court records show law enforcement brought it back to the scene of the crash and matched it to the parts left behind.

Deputies matched it to 21-year-old Gerardo Segundo and learned he was Pineda’s neighbor, as well as a Harris County detention officer.

Deputies noticed that Segundo had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol, and asked him to perform a field sobriety test, but he refused.

Later, during a probable cause hearing, the magistrate deemed no probable cause for Segundo and said prosecutors did not find any sufficient evidence of criminal mischief and decided to do away with a second charge.

Pineda believes that damage to his fence came to a total of $3,000.

Pineda reported no injuries and said he and his wife were not struck when Segundo’s pickup truck struck a portion of his home.
