Hit-and-run driver comes forward after double-fatal crash in Aldine

HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A 30-year-old man has been arrested following a hit-and-run crash late Saturday in Aldine that claimed the lives of two people, including a two-month-old baby, reports ABC13.

The fatal incident occurred at the corner of Airline Drive and Aldine Mail Route Road on August 19, at around 11:50 p.m.

According to Harris County sheriff’s deputies, the suspect, Jose Antonio Gonzalez-Vazquez, had been at a party with his wife that night when he left alone. Preliminary details indicate he was driving a Chevrolet Silverado at high speed when the vehicle entered the intersection and hit the left side of a Ram 1500. Authorities said 31-year-old Juan Loredo was behind the wheel of the Ram, which had turned right from westbound Aldine Mail Route Road onto northbound Airline Drive at a red light.

The impact of the collision sent the Ram up the roadway, and left both vehicles significantly damaged and stopped on the median.

Loredo, who was ejected as a result of the crash, was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

First responders also transported his passengers, a 28-year-old woman and three children, including two boys ages 7 and 10 and a two-month-old baby girl, to area hospitals. HCSO officials confirmed the baby, who suffered brain bleed injuries, died the following day, Sunday, August 20.

Gonzalez-Vazquez, who was captured on surveillance video fleeing the fiery crash on foot, had left his wallet behind and was promptly identified. Deputies said Gonzalez-Vazquez turned himself in on Tuesday, August 22. He has been charged with two counts of “failure to stop and render aid,” and made his first court appearance overnight, where his bond was set at $250,000 total. Officials said that in the event that he posts bond, he will be barred from driving without approval from a judge.
