Hit-and-run driver sought after East Fwy crash that claimed pedestrian’s life
HOUSTON, TX — One person died late last Saturday, January 13, following a pedestrian crash on the East Freeway heading into Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division said the incident took place at 16000 East Freeway, in the Marwood area, at about 10:08 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate Maira Carmona was driving a gray 2018 Nissan Versa westbound in the main freeway lanes. Carmona told investigators that the pedestrian was holding a bike when he began walking southbound across the roadway. Even as Carmona swerved to the left, the Nissan’s right-side view mirror still hit the pedestrian, identified as Billy Leon Meadows.
Meadows, who was found with no signs of life, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Bloody car parts found at the site later helped officials determine that the driver of a 2019-2021 Honda Civic was also involved in the fatal pedestrian crash.
At this time, investigators continue to search for the Honda driver, who fled the scene following the crash.
