HPD investigates fatal bike crash, potential hit-and-run in SW Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A 78-year-old man died Sunday night after an apparent bicycle accident on Scanlock Street in southwest Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
Officers responded to the scene on the 7800 block of the road, in the city’s Pecan Park neighborhood, shortly after 9:15 p.m.
Investigators are working to determine the circumstances of the incident, but the victim, who suffered a head injury, was found lying next to a bicycle on the ground.
Houston Fire Department paramedics rushed the man to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased the following day, Monday, October 23.
It remains unclear at this time whether the victim fell off the bike or was hit by a driver who fled the scene. Authorities noted that the bike did not appear to be damaged, and no witnesses have come forward.
