HPD investigates fatal pedestrian crash on I-45 in Gulfgate Riverview/Pine Valley area
HOUSTON, TX — A male pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle last Saturday, January 6, while trying to cross Interstate 45 in southeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The fatal incident unfolded in the 6000 block of the highway (Gulf Freeway), in the city’s Gulfgate Riverview/Pine Valley area, at about 6:25 a.m.
Investigators say the victim was attempting to travel across the freeway’s main lanes on foot when he was hit by a gray Honda Civic that was heading northbound. A witness observed that the area was foggy at the time, causing low visibility.
The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene by paramedics, confirmed officials.
The driver, a 46-year-old man, was questioned at the scene and then released after authorities determined he was not impaired.
An investigation by the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division remains in progress.
