HPD investigates fatal pedestrian crash on Katy Fwy in west Houston
HOUSTON, TX — A man died early last Thursday after a hit-and-run pedestrian crash on the Katy Freeway in west Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
The HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division said the incident occurred in the 10800 block of the freeway (West Interstate Highway 10), in the city’s Memorial area. It was first reported at around 12:15 a.m.
While details remain limited, a preliminary investigation indicates the victim was wither walking or running on the freeway when he was hit by a vehicle whose driver failed to stop. Investigators believe his body went unseen in a dark area of the interstate’s shoulder before he was observed by a motorist.
Responding officers arrived to find a male pedestrian unresponsive and lying on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes. The victim, believed to be around 50 to 60 years of age, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The HPD’s Hit and Run Unit urges anyone with information to call 713-247-4072. Crime Stoppers can also be reached anonymously at 713-222-TIPS.
