HPD officer hurt in Chinatown crash while responding to emergency call

HOUSTON, TX — A HPD officer was hospitalized Monday after their patrol unit collided with a pole in Houston’s Chinatown neighborhood, according to ABC13.

The wreck took place at the intersection of Bellaire Boulevard and Corporate Road. It was first reported by ABC13 at 6:57 a.m.

While it is unclear how the accident occurred, the Houston Police Department said the officer was en route to a scene after receiving an emergency call. At one point, the officer lost control of their vehicle, causing it to strike a pole.

The impact of the collision caused the unit’s airbags to deploy. Footage captured at the site shows the vehicle extensively damaged and its windshield shattered.

First responders transported the officer to a local hospital for minor injuries.

No other information about the circumstances of the crash or the emergency call has been provided.
